I needed a place to put some of my ‘web-enabled’ embedded projects (mainly for some data transfer stuff that you’ll never see).  Since I claimed the domain name, I figured I might as well share some of the projects  I’ve created over the years.  I also offer custom design, prototyping, laser cutting/engraving services.  Need help with design engineering or creating a widget, gadget, robot, or anything else?  Feel free to ask me.

The TROBOT:

The TROBOT is a miniature six‐axis robot powered by small (RC-style) servo motors. The design features an embedded microcontroller, which acts as a servo controller interface between the robot and a PC running ABB’s Robot Studio.

The TROBOT won two ‘Honorable Mentions’ in electronic design contests sponsored by Circuit Cellar Magazine, Texas Instruments, WizNET (among others).

LATEST PROJECTS (below are some of the  current projects I’m working on):

ServoCam

The ServoCam is a web-enabled, servo controlled, digital camera.   The miniature servos allow the camera to pan and tilt.  The camera itself includes JPEG image compression and a UART interface.  The hardware and example software developed for this project provides a platform which can be easily further refined into any number of applications.

ServoJect

The ServoJect is a crude “proof-of-concept” for a Servo Driven Intramuscular Injection device.  It’s not quite ready to stick my leg yet…   ...but a much improved prototype will be together soon.  I plan to refine it into a smaller, sleeker, portable device that could help others that also need to self-medicate.

The project uses skin detection sensors to know that it is in contact and features a random fire time, because I would rather NOT know when it is going to stick me (somewhere between 3 and 20 seconds).

This project was just selected for a Distinctive Excellence Award in the 2011 NXP mbed Design Challenge, and will soon be published on Circuit Cellar & Elektor magazine’s websites.

June-Aug 2011:  TROBOT 4.0  on KickStarter

I’m currently raising funds to build a new version of the TROBOT, check out my project video:
